Centenary Lunch & Match v MCCA XI
Cheshire's Centenary Luncheon took place at Chester Boughton Hall
on Wednesday, July 15th at Chester Boughton Hall, attended by
80 people. Former Cheshire and Essex all-rounder Bob Cooke was
guest speaker.
The game between Cheshire and a Minor Counties XI was delayed
by rain until 3.30 p.m. when a T20 took place, the visitors winning
by 39 runs. The Minors' team was captained by former Brooklands
player Chris Brown, who will lead Norfolk in the Minor Counties
Cup final against Staffordshire at Chester le Street on Wednesday
this week.
Cheshire's Jim Law, Gerry Hardstaff and Tony Percival led a group
of officers who have produced a well-researched brochure to mark
the centenary.
President Hardstaff, himself a prolific scoring batsman during
a county career which lasted from 1960 - 78, names his Best Cheshire
XII in the brochure. Omitting Overseas and former Test players,
it comprises: Fred Millett captain, Arthur Sutton, Andrew Hall,
Ian Cockbain, Bob Cooke, Nathan Dumelow, Jason Whittaker, Ken
Holding (wicket-keeper), Simon Dyson, Brian Jackson, Tony Murphy,
Neil O'Brien
