RICHARD LOGAN FOR CHESHIRE COUNTY CRICKET CLUB
''Cheshire County Cricket Club is delighted to announce that they have taken on, for the season of 2010, the cricketing and coaching services of opening bowler Richard Logan from Berkshire via Surrey.
This unusual side step from current policy has been necessitated by the retirement at the end of last season of both Jason Whittaker and Chris Finegan. The uncertainty of the full fitness of Adam Syddall following a shoulder operation in the winter months was also a contributory factor to this decision.
To replace these stalwarts, who were significant players in the considerable success of the County First team over the last few years, is going to be difficult but we are fortunate to have some very good young medium paced bowlers coming through the Cricket Board Youth system via our Cheshire Clubs. Others have recently arrived from that same highway and also have some Minor County experience or are currently showing well with their University First Teams in their first year.
These youngsters have all emerged into a winning environment and we want to maintain that position where practical - success breeds success. We feel sure that Richard Logan is the ideal man to partner Adam Syddall to provide the penetration needed to win matches and that together with the other established senior players will be able, through his established Coaching and First Class Cricket experience, be able to bring on our youngsters in the right manner and also be on hand to help them during the matches.
The County Cricket Committee is still committed, under The County Development Plan, to the pursuit of Cheshire County Cricket for Cheshire based cricketers but in the present circumstances the temporary diversion was considered to be essential so that no unnecessary pressure was placed on the young pretenders at their most vulnerable moment.''
